What Should I Do if My Clear Aligner Doesn’t Fit?

Clear aligners like CandidPro have become a popular choice for straightening teeth because of its clear, removable aligners and convenient design. However, sometimes patients notice that their aligner doesn’t fit properly. It may feel too tight, not snap fully into place, or leave small gaps between the aligner and teeth. While this can be frustrating, it’s also a common issue—and one that can usually be fixed with the right steps. Here’s what you should do if your Invisalign aligner doesn’t fit.

Make Sure You’re Inserting It Correctly

It may sound simple, but the first step is to double-check how you’re putting the aligner in. Start by seating the aligner over your front teeth, then gently push it over your back molars using your fingertips. Avoid biting down to force it into place, as this can damage the aligner or your teeth. Sometimes, a fit issue is just a matter of adjusting your technique.

Use Chewies

If your aligner feels loose or doesn’t fully “snap” onto your teeth, chewies can help. Chewies are small, soft cylinders that you bite down on while wearing your aligner. By gently biting and holding, you help push the aligner closer to your teeth and ensure a snug fit. Using chewies for a few minutes several times a day can make a big difference, especially when switching to a new set of aligners.

Give It Time to Adjust

When you first switch to a new set of aligners, they are designed to feel tight. That tightness is what gradually moves your teeth into position. In most cases, your aligner will feel more comfortable after a day or two of wear. As long as you are wearing them for the recommended 20 to 22 hours per day, minor fit issues usually resolve on their own.

Check for Gaps or Pressure Points

If your aligner isn’t fitting properly, you may notice small spaces between the aligner and certain teeth. This can happen if you didn’t wear your previous aligner long enough, or if your teeth are moving more slowly than expected. If this happens, don’t move on to the next tray until you’ve spoken with your dentist or orthodontist, as doing so can throw your treatment off track.

Call Your Dentist

If your aligner still doesn’t fit after a few days, it’s best to contact your dental provider. They may recommend wearing your previous aligner for a little longer, provide you with new aligners, or adjust your treatment plan. Trying to force an ill-fitting aligner can damage both the tray and your teeth, so professional guidance is important.

An aligner that doesn’t fit properly is a common issue, but it’s usually nothing to worry about. With chewies, patience, and guidance from your dentist, you can get your treatment back on track quickly. The key is to address the problem early—ignoring a poor fit can delay your progress.
